Richard Medek Elected Director General of Czech Radio
Richard Medek has been elected the new Director General of Czech Radio. Mr. Medek has officially replaced the previous director Václav Kasík, who was dismissed by the Czech Radio Council on the 23rd July 2009. During his speech, Richard Medek said that his priorities included the programme and economic stability, further development of quality content as well as the completion of the extensive reconstruction of the Czech Radio historic building.
In his announcement, Mr. Medek also highlighted the responsibility of Czech Radio towards their listeners. He emphasized the cooperation of Czech Radio employees in order to sustain a creative working atmosphere and support the development of Czech Radio as a strong, modern and dynamic public service broadcaster of the 21st century.
Richard Medek held various managerial functions both at Czech Radio as well as at Czech Television and several commercial media outlets. As of 2007, he was the Czech Radio Programme Director following by the position of interim Director General for the overarching period of selective procedure after Mr. Kasík´s dismissal.
